Printable Expert Sudoku Puzzles

Four free printable expert Sudoku puzzles on one sheet, with the solutions on the next page. Expert grids start from 25–27 clues, which is few enough that scanning alone stalls within a handful of placements — you will need full pencil marks and patterns such as locked candidates, X-Wing and Swordfish. Every puzzle still has exactly one solution reachable by logic alone, with no guessing required.

Prints on one Letter or A4 sheet, with solutions on page two. Use Ctrl+P / ⌘+P if the button doesn't open your print dialog.

Solving Expert Sudoku on Paper

Expert puzzles reward bookkeeping more than speed. A printed grid is actually an advantage here, because you can annotate candidates freely and see the whole board at once. A reliable order of work:

  1. Sweep for the free placements first. Scan each digit 1–9 across rows, columns and boxes and fill anything forced. On a 26-clue grid this usually yields only two or three cells.
  2. Write full pencil marks. Once the easy placements dry up, put every remaining candidate in the corner of each empty cell. Skipping this step is the most common reason an expert puzzle feels impossible.
  3. Look for singles hiding in the notes. A cell with one candidate left is a naked single; a digit that fits only one cell in a unit is a hidden single.
  4. Work the box–line overlaps. When a digit's candidates in a box all sit in one row or column, it can be removed from the rest of that line — see locked candidates.
  5. Then reach for the rectangle patterns. X-Wing and its three-line extension Swordfish are the two patterns that most often break an expert grid open.
  6. Cross candidates out, never erase. Keeping the crossed-out digits visible lets you retrace a deduction if you lose the thread.

If a puzzle stops moving, put it down and come back. Expert grids often turn on a single elimination that is easy to miss on a first pass and obvious on a second.

Clue count is a rough guide to difficulty, but the techniques required matter more. On this site:

If the hard pack takes you under fifteen minutes, expert is the natural next step. If hard puzzles still stall, work through the strategy guides first; expert grids are difficult in a way that practice, not patience, fixes.
